The Angénieux Optimo Prime series represents the pinnacle of the brand’s 70-year legacy in high-end cinema optics, offering a full-frame, high-performance solution that seamlessly pairs with the Optimo Ultra 12X and the Optimo Ultra Compact zooms. Designed for demanding productions, these lenses deliver the legendary Angénieux look, characterized by a creamy, organic rendering, warm color tones, delicate focus roll-off, and beautiful flares. Their cinematic character makes them ideal for high-end feature films, commercials, and short films, where a refined yet expressive image is desired.
The 12-piece set, covering focal lengths from 18mm to 200mm, is engineered for compactness and lightweight operation, while maintaining the exceptional optical quality and mechanics associated with the Optimo name. Most of the lenses feature a fast T1.8 aperture, ensuring excellent low-light performance and a shallow depth of field for striking subject isolation. The Integrated Optical Palette (IOP) technology adds an extra layer of versatility, allowing cinematographers to customize the lenses through interchangeable iris blades, internal elements, and rear filters to tailor the look to their specific creative vision. Optimo Primes are more than just a single lens series—they provide a modular, adaptable toolkit, capable of delivering multiple aesthetic possibilities. Whether aiming for a warm, character-driven softness or a more controlled, high-contrast image, these lenses cater to a variety of styles. Their precise engineering ensures seamless compatibility with Optimo zoom lenses, making them a comprehensive solution for cinematographers seeking both primes and zooms without compromising visual continuity.
The Optimo Prime lenses have already made their mark in notable productions. Heart of the Hunter (2024), shot by cinematographer Trevor Calverley, showcases their ability to capture high-intensity action with a cinematic edge, while Hong Chuan (2021), lensed by Arden Tse, demonstrates their effectiveness in historical and dramatic storytelling.
